Let's Live Young
We all have the ability to change. Your nutrition, your health, your thoughts, your beliefs, your
lifestyle - whatever it is that needs to shift in your life you are not pre-destined for anything.
This rings true in all aspects as we are an interconnected web when it comes to the factors that lead us to vibrancy, vitality, and health. This is influenced by how we treat ourselves physically,
mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
You are not your story.
You can change the way you view what has happened to you in the past in order to shift your
trauma and heal.
With the right determination you can change your entire outlook on life.
I wholeheartedly believe that we have the ability to heal ourselves if we have the determination, guidance, and motivation to do so.
We can take this a step further and look to science about the possibilities when we are motivated to take control of ourselves and our health. The ability to change through the choices we make is very possible and can determine our longevity and our quality of life.
Epigenetics is a term that many of you may be familiar with. Dr. Bruce Lipton who wrote The
Biology of Belief and Dr. Joe Dispenza who wrote You are the Placebo, Breaking the Habit of
Being Yourself as well as several other thought-provoking books, are both well known for their
research on the power of the mind/body connection. They explore how our thoughts as well as
our external environment can influence our biology.
What is so exciting is that more and more research continues to come to light around the power of epigenetics and its potential to transform everything we think about, especially relating to how we manage our health, our mental and emotional programming, and our connection to spirituality.
What exactly is Epigenetics...? Well the first thing that comes up when you ask Google, is this:
Epigenetics is the study of how your behaviors and environment can cause changes that affect
the way your genes work. Unlike genetic changes, epigenetic changes are reversible and do not
change your DNA sequence, but they can change how your body reads a DNA sequence.
In other words, we have the ability, through our lifestyle choices, to determine whether or not
certain genes are turned on or turned off. Do you realize how big this is? There are actual studies that show that through more positive choices we can turn off certain disease-causing genes and turn on certain health and longevity genes. We have the ability to turn on our happy genes, and turn off our not so happy genes. Through the food we eat, the way we treat ourselves and our bodies, the people we surround ourselves with, the thoughts we think, the lifestyle we choose to live; WE can determine the quality of our health and quite possibly even reverse our aging!
When I say everything you choose matters, I mean it. Everything matters.
There are many ways in which we can start the process of “reprogramming” ourselves. This
could be starting a mindfulness or meditation practice, a workout or movement routine, finding a way to be more social so we feel part of community, setting new goals and intentions for
ourselves and following through on them, paying more attention to the foods we put into our
bodies, and so much more! Our genes do not have to determine our future. By taking control and making more positive choices we have the ability to create our destiny.
How beautiful is that?
The potential of what we can create in our lives is huge.
First there is awareness and then there is choice.
With this knowledge there comes freedom, there comes power, and I hope more than anything
there comes motivation. We are currently living in a “sick-care” system where it is more about
receiving treatments once we are full of disease, rather than taking our health into our own hands and making changes now that could either eliminate or reduce the chances for disease to take hold in the first place!
What if we started by being proactive, by taking new action, and by making new choices that
will benefit us in the long term? What if this led us to feeling healthy, energized, happy, and
ultimately, the best versions of ourselves that we can be?
The fact that we are so interconnected, that every aspect of our life is influencing our genes and
how they are expressed is mind-blowing in so many ways. The science continues to emerge, the
truth is coming to light. It is time to start making the changes you want to make; it is time to start living your best life; let’s live young!
